  • Relationship satisfaction linked to oral contraception

    15 October 2011, by Health

A Stirling University researcher has connected relationship satisfaction with oral contraception. Dr Craig Roberts and seven colleagues examined women who use the pill when they meet their partner. They found these women were less sexually satisfied or attracted to their partners. However, the women were more satisfied with other aspects of the relationship and so less likely to separate, according to the research. Dr Roberts said: "Our results show some positive and (...)

There is no clear explanation for the results, presented to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine conference in Denver. Approximately 44% of the UK population has type "O" blood. The researchers, from (...)

Researchers from Vanderbilt University in the US looked at nearly 5,000 pregnancies involving a parent who had survived childhood cancer. They found high doses of radiation to the pelvis raised the risk for women, but not men, the Lancet reported. Doctors agreed that such pregnancies should be monitored closely. The researchers believe the (...)

    1 June 2011, by Health

Multiple births pose a health risk to both the mother and her babies, and put financial strain on health services. During the 90s multiple births rose as doctors implanted a number of embryos into women having IVF - this has since been reduced. But the multiple birth rate is still on the increase. In this week’s Scrubbing Up, leading fertility expert Professor Bill Ledger says part of the problem is the liberal use of cheap fertility drugs, and warns there will be dire consequences (...)
